Bipolar Disorder & Marriage with Gabe Howard | RDID Ep. 101 - Recovery Diaries

Bipolar Disorder & Marriage with Gabe Howard | RDID Ep. 101

>

For our inaugural episode of our podcast “Recovery Diaries in Depth”, how could I pass up the opportunity to have two Gabe’s sit down together to share our friendship, mental health advocacy, and living with mental health challenges? Gabe Howard is a longtime friend of mine and of Recovery Diaries; he’s written essays for us, and we even made a film together so the next logical step was, of course, a podcast episode; specifically one with a focus on life and marriage with bipolar disorder.

Gabe shares his experience of being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and the challenges he faced in accepting his diagnosis. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the complexities of bipolar disorder beyond the highs and lows. Gabe also discusses his concept of recovery and how he manages his mental health with the support of his wife, Kendall.

Our conversation touches on the envy Gabe feels towards mentally healthy individuals and the unique perspective of being married to someone without bipolar disorder. Gabe Howard reflects on his journey with bipolar disorder and how it has shaped his life and relationships. He discusses the impact of his illness on his marriage and the fear of being abandoned or getting sick again. You can enjoy more of Gabe Howard, his views and experiences on his own podcast projects, Inside Bipolar, Inside Mental Health, and Inside Schizophrenia, which provide a platform for both lived experience and medical perspectives.
