Shumaila Hemani, Ph.D. is an award-winning artist-scholar, trauma-informed coach, and founder & CEO of The Deep Listening Path, a Calgary-based social enterprise. Her approach weaves music, mindfulness, creativity, and deep listening to build resilience and address burnout—especially for changemakers, creatives, and advocates navigating mental health and systemic inequities. Hemani has facilitated wellness and deep listening workshops for organizations such as the Canadian Poverty Institute and Alberta Ecotrust. A runner-up in Alberta Blue Cross’s Faces of Wellness and a founding supporter of the Global Compassion Coalition, she brings a compassionate, embodied lens to healing and leadership. Her song Anticipating was featured in a national tour for suicide prevention awareness and hope. Her forthcoming memoir, Writing in the Wound: Acculturation, Trauma, and Music, explores her journey as a displaced artist navigating immigration precarity, systemic erasure, and the transformative power of music as resistance and recovery.
